Diversity: a new word in the fashion industry, so to speak, where runways are slowly, but surely beginning to showcase it. Not limited to race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, status, age or physical ability, fashion shows are starting to explore what can be. Although the idea of incorporating diversity has made a grand impact, people begin to believe that a size zero is not a "real" garment size.. How is that so?
Yes, diversity has stretched far past thin-Caucasian-blonde-haired-blue-eyed models but that doesn't mean that people who fit that description aren't normal or not apart of the industry any more. Humans come in many different shapes and sizes and there is no right or wrong to how a person looks. Whether you have a gorgeous Victoria's Secret model (who by the way does work to look that good) or a contestant on the Biggest Loser, every person is beautiful in a unique way.
One of my biggest fashion inspirations is Twiggy, because really, who doesn't like Twiggy?? Well if you're among the group who doesn't love her I'll give you a few reasons why you should:
1. As a teen she was beautiful and never understood why
2. She depicts the androgynous styles of the 1960s
3. She doesn't support the starvation-to-thin-out for modelling and the ethics behind why girls do so
4. She was a healthy teen who let genetics guide her towards her career
5. Once an America's Next Top Model Judge
Need I say more? Okay well I left out a few life events but if you want to know more Google will always help.
